Andrew Cheddie Sookrah
Sookrah was born in Guyana and immigrated to Toronto in 1974. Upon moving to Canada, he continued his studies at OCAD, George Brown College and Ryerson. In addition to his work as a studio artist, in oils, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, Sookrah is also the president and creative director of Engine Room Creative Inc, a creative and design development boutique studio for marketing campaigns for clients in Canada, US and UK, which is based in Toronto. Sookrah is an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists, the Portrait Society of Canada and the Society of Canadian Artists. His body of work includes landscape, figurative, portraiture, representational, abstract and installation. As well as participating in Nuit Blanche, he has displayed his work at the Outdoor Art Show at City Hall, Distillery District Art Shows, and group shows with Arts Scarborough. Additionally, he has been included in many juried group shows at the Arts And Letters Club of Toronto and his work has been included in several juried shows put on by the SCA, the 38th Annual in Montreal, the Spring Show at the Art Gallery of Northumberland in Coburg, Integration at the Art Gallery Of Hamilton, etc. He has participated in and likewise been included in numerous solo and group shows throughout Ontario; Sookrah’s work is held in a number of important corporate, Government and private collections in Canada and the US.
